The city of Covington has stepped up to the edge of completing its downtown zoning and design regulations, and if the weather doesn’t change, about 18 months of work should be completed early in October.
At the Tuesday City Council meeting the members considered zoning in the town center that would allow a 24-hour emergency center. This has been one of the more controversial issues in the zoning plan update.
The King County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a crash involving a motorcycle and a small SUV, which took place at 5 p.m. today in the 4600 block of South 272 Street.
The city of Black Diamond is constructing sidewalk improvements on the north side of Morgan Street between Roberts Drive and Abrams Avenue and sidewalk improvements on the south side of Roberts Drive between City Hall and Morgan Street.
Funding for the projects comes from the King County Community Development Block Grant and the State Transportation Improvement Board.

Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety emergency personnel and King County paramedics were dispatched to a vehicle accident at 3:34 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, in the 30400 block of Southeast Kent Kangley Road. A King County Sheriff’s deputy was at the scene and said the vehicle driver, a man, was possibly deceased. Upon arrival firefighters found a truck that had collided with a tree and the man was still responsive.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of a pick up, a 24-year-old man from Buckley, stuck and killed a 20-year-old man riding a bicycle near Enumclaw early Sunday morning. The man driving the pick up shot and killed himself just after the accident. Both men died at the scene.
The Maple Valley-Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a debate for the 5th and 47th legislative districts candidates.
The debates is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Rock Creek Elementary gymnasium, 25700 Maple Valley Highway.
Candidates in the 47th District races are Sen. Claudia Kauffman-D and Joe Fain-R for the Senate seat.

Kent firefighters were called to the scenes of two businesses Tuesday night, Sept. 8, after heavy rains came through the area causing damage and one partial roof collapse.
