The city of Black Diamond is constructing sidewalk improvements on the north side of Morgan Street between Roberts Drive and Abrams Avenue and sidewalk improvements on the south side of Roberts Drive between City Hall and Morgan Street.

Funding for the projects comes from the King County Community Development Block Grant and the State Transportation Improvement Board.

The project includes curb, gutter and sidewalk installation, road overlay, grubbing, grading, HMA paving, HMA overlay, storm drainage improvements, driveway re-grading, and channelization improvements.

Construction began Sept. 7 on the Morgan Street Sidewalk project, phase 2 and the city announces that the original traffic plan for Morgan Street during construction has been revised.

Due to concerns about wet weather, cooler temperatures and the project schedule, the city has authorized the contractor, Scotty’s General Construction, to close down traffic in both directions on Morgan Street, as necessary, to facilitate construction.

In designing the project, it was anticipated that one lane would remain open during construction. Yet, in anticipation of wetter and cooler weather, the contractor requested to close down the entire street to allow for more efficient construction work, speeding up the construction of this project.

During the road closures, school buses, Metro, police and fire, along with residents within the project area, will all have access to pass through the construction area. The Enumclaw School District has been informed that there is no need to change bus routes as children can be picked up and dropped off as usual. All other residents are requested to use the detour route as directed.

If you have any questions visit the Public Works Department on the city website, or call Ted Scott, the superintendent for Scotty’s General, at 206-255-7515.
