I recently listened to the sounds of rasping saws from a neighboring house as they brought down tree branches and then trunks damaged by winter storms three months ago. We too had waited patiently for over two months for a contractor clear away our blow down debris and to remove dangerous trees.

The United Way of King County organized a call to action in mid-March for local communities. Over 1500 pounds of food was collected in one week, delivered to the Black Diamond Community Center, and ready to go out to those in need of food.

On Monday, Nov. 7, the Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council (GMVUAC) held its regular monthly meeting. The major topic discussed was the King County Comprehensive Plan (KCCP) 2012 Update.
This is a state that is 42nd in the nation in high school completion (65.6 percent) and the Kent School District completion rate (58.2 percent) is less than that of the state of Washington according to “Education Week.”
The governor has announced plans for sweeping budget cuts in K-12 education. These will create some major challenges for our local school districts who are the recipients of state levy equalization funds.
