2012 KCCP Update

The Area Council completed its review of the King County Executive’s draft of the major four-year 2012 update to the King County Comprehensive Plan (KCCP).

On Wednesday, April 25, the Area Council provided Oral Testimony to the King County Council’s Transportation, Economy and Environment (TrEE) Committee at a public comment session held at Tahoma Junior. HS in Ravensdale.

Accompanying the Area Council’s testimony were many members of the Public including

Area Council detailed comments were submitted to the King County Council’s TrEE Committee on Friday, April 27. Those comments dealt with the following specific policy areas:

Placement of urban schools and other urban facilities in the rural area

  • Environmental habitat protection
  • Park maintenance
  • Travel forecasting
  • Transportation Concurrency
  • Transportation revenue shortfall
  • Water systems
  • Zoning/Land-Use.

Vacancies

Beverly Tonda was accepted as a new member of the Area Council. It was decided Ms. Tonda could add valuable experience on a variety of County issues. The Area Council has several vacancies to fill.

Citizens Survey

The Area Council tasked it’s survey committee to prepare a set of questions to include in its 2012 Citizens Surveys. Such surveys have been invaluable in gaging citizen concerns on key issues such as urban facilities in the rural area, parks, transportation, water systems, zoning, etc. More information on the citizen survey will be forthcoming.

Area Council Information

Your Area Council serves as an all-volunteer, locally elected advisory body to the King County Council representing all rural unincorporated area residents living in the Tahoma School District. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month. A public comment period at the beginning of each meeting provides citizens an opportunity to voice issues of concern to Area Council members and County and State government officials in attendance.

If you live in the Tahoma School District outside the city of Maple Valley, you are eligible to become a member of the Area Council.

The Area Council’s next meeting will be from 7-9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 4, at the Maple Valley Fire Station located at 231st Street and state Route 169.
