Youths throughout King County will be showing their family dogs, mixed breed and purebred, Saturday April 2, at Argus Ranch for Dogs. Exhibitors coming from 4-H clubs located in Auburn, Woodinville, Redmond, Federal Way, Kirkland, Renton, Kent, Seattle and Enumclaw will have trained and cleaned their pet dogsand hope to qualify to show them at the Puyallup Fair in September.

Monday, March 28, is the deadline to register online or submit a voter registration form, or to update registration information in time to vote in the April Special Election. Districts participating in this election are the Tahoma and Snoqualmie Valley School Districts.
“We conducted an election in February with an outcome that was decided by a single vote,” said Elections Director Sherril Huff. “Every vote can make a difference, but you must be registered and your information must be up to date for your ‘vote by mail’ ballot to reach you.”
Now is your chance to tell the Kent School District where to cut an estimated $6 million to $7 million from the 2011-2012 budget.
The district has scheduled a Community Budget Session and Public Hearing to discuss the potential cuts. The meeting is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at the Kentwood High School gym, 25800 164th Ave. S.E., in Covington.
An officer observed a vehicle traveling westbound in the 25000 block of Morgan Street. This vehicle at first was excessively applying its brakes and upon making a turn it crossed over into the opposite lane of travel and continued driving in that lane for about 150 feet. A traffic stop was initiated. While speaking with the woman driver the officer observed numerous signs of intoxication and she admitted she had been drinking. The female driver agreed to perform a series of field sobriety tests, which she failed.
A 61-year-old Covington man, Tyrone Wudtee, was arrested March 23 for allegedly using a false identity for the past 30 years collecting welfare benefits and unemployment benefits using the social security number connected to the name.
According to a release from the United States Attorney’s Office, Wudtee used a name with the initials M.L.S. and he had been living in Western Washington using the name for three decades.
Wudtee remains in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for March 31.
The Maple Valley Creative Arts Center will be hosting another open mic event 7 p.m. Saturday, March 26.
The featured performer is Natalie Murphy. Murphy is a talented singer songwriter. She recorded her first CD of original music at age 16, and has been delighting local audiences since. Joining her will be a special guest very dear to her.
The sickly state budget dominated discussions when Washington journalists trekked to Olympia to hear from legislators and the state’s elected department heads.
Those who control millions of taxpayer dollars and oversee thousands of employees took turns lamenting the state of the budget on March 17, a day when new projections were announced. By mid-day, all knew the budget gap had reached $5.1 billion.

Adults who are watching the trends of teen drug and alcohol use are alarmed.
According to the 2008 Healthy Youth Survey results, nearly two-thirds of students in Washington state who are high school seniors had tried alcohol by the time they were in 10th grade.
More than 7,000 of the state’s seniors, who were sophomores at the time, participated in the survey. At the time there were 11,732 students in 10th grade.
A stove top fire has displaced six people in the 17100 block of SE 267 Street in Covington at 6:50 p.m. today, March 23.
No one was injured in the fire that heavily damaged the cabinets located above the stove top, but smoke traveled extensively through the two story house.
A 40-year-old Maple Valley man, Troy Allen Hewitt, was charged with second degree murder and first degree assault by the King County Prosecutor today, March 23, in superior court.
Hewitt is alleged to have stabbed to death James Reed III and wounded Reed’s 49-year-old father with a knife, March 20, following a bar fight at the at the Red Dog Saloon located at 18605 S.E. Renton-Maple Valley Road in unincorporated King County.
Spring time means getting the word out for the organizers of the Relay for Life of Black Diamond-Covington-Maple Valley.
Thus far, there are 16 teams, explained committee co-chair Laura Hiner along with $12,000 raised.
The goal, Hiner said, is to have at least 25 teams total signed up for the event and to raise $40,000.
King County Sheriff Sue Rahr closed a four mile stretch of the Cedar River because the river has become too dangerous for recreational users.
The river is closed between the eastern end of Southeast Jones Road at the Maple Valley Highway, and 154th Avenue South, which is the western end of Jones Road at the Maple Valley Highway or state Route 169.
The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed a first-degree sexual misconduct charge Tuesday in Superior Court, a class C felony, against Barbara Jeanne Anderson, a Kentlake High School teacher.
The 37-year-old math teacher is alleged to have had sexual contact with a 17-year-old male student who was in her class at the school.
Kathy Hilde used to go to the Greater Maple Valley Community Center when her children were small to enjoy Toddler Time.
Now her kids are teenagers who volunteer through the community center and giving time has been extremely rewarding for her 18-year-old son Michael.
The King County Sheriff’s office reported a woman teacher at Kentlake High teacher was arrested and booked into the King County jail Thursday, March 17, for investigation of sexual misconduct with a minor, first degree, a class C felony.
Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the King County Sheriff’s Office stated the 37-year-old woman is alleged to have had sexual contact with a 17-year-old male student.
At 12:52 a.m. in the 18600 block of Renton-Maple Valley Highway paramedics from Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety and King County were dispatched to a tavern to provide medical aid to two patients that had been stabbed. Both patients were transported to a local trauma center.
The good news is the city of Maple Valley still has money in the bank, new police officers and it is clearing lingering issues off its plate according to Mayor Noel Gerken who gave his state of the city speech on Friday.
Gerken spoke before the Maple Valley Rotary, explaining what’s been going on in the past year, what is working, what has been challenging and what the city will be tackling in the coming year.
“Our No. 1 priority is public safety,” Gerken said. “To that end, this year we added three new police officers, another detective. We want to say ahead of the curve in terms of public safety and police.”
