Windy conditions lead to lopsided victory for Kentlake | Fastpitch Slide Show

Wind whipped pony tails and fly balls around during a high scoring affair between Kentlake and Thomas Jefferson on Monday as the Falcons beat the Raiders 24-7.

It was the first two innings in punishing 20 to 30 MPH winds at Jefferson that put Kentlake ahead in a five inning game.

Falcons third baseman Brooke Evans started off a fantastic offensive effort with a grand slam in the first, driving in Erika Smyth, Jessie Richardson and Libby Riehl after crushing the ball more than 200 feet over the left center field fence.

The biggest inning for the Falcons was the second when they sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine runs to go up 13-0 which included a three run shot over the right center field fence by freshman right fielder Kellie Nielsen, her first homer over the fence as a high school player.

Evans went three for three for Kentlake with two home runs and a double. Richardson joined the home run club for the game when she hit a solo shot over the left center field fence in the top of the fourth.

Nikole Weber pitched all five innings for the Falcons, striking out four and giving up three earned runs.

Kentlake narrowly beat Jefferson during the first meeting between the teams on April 9 when it won 4-3 after being down 3-2 heading in the bottom of the seventh inning at home. Jefferson, 10-4 in league, is currently in third place behind Kentlake and Tahoma.

On Friday, Hannah Sauget pitched six innings for Kentlake while Weber closed out the game in an 8-1 win at Auburn Riverside.

Erin Crowley went 3-for-4, collecting four RBIs with a triple and stolen base, while Kellie Nielsen also went 3-for-4 with a double.

Kentlake takes on Auburn on Tuesday and Kent-Meridian on Wednesday to wrap up the regular season.
