Tahoma starts out 3-0, Kentlake 2-0 and Kentwood splits first pair of games to start season

At first glance it wouldn’t seem like Tahoma’s fastpitch squad graduated two-thirds of its lineup.

Tahoma has raced out to a 3-0 start in South Puget Sound League North play and through March 23 was alone atop the division standings.

On March 21 Tahoma traveled to Thomas Jefferson. Jordan Walley threw a complete game from the circle while the Bears beat the Raiders 6-5.

Walley, a senior captain, also went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles, a home run and 3 RBIs.

Hayley Beckstrom, senior shortstop and captain, also contributed at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance along with an RBI. Amanda Allison went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and an RBI against the Raiders.

Tahoma followed that up the next day with an 11-1 victory over Kent-Meridian then pounded out a 10-0 five-inning win over visiting Mount Rainier on March 23.

Beckstrom smacked her first high school ball home run in the game against K-M while Molly Lathrop was 2-for-2 at the plate with a single and a double along with a run scored and a pair of stolen bases.

Courtney Cloud finished the contest against the Royals 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Jena Waler went 1-for-2 against K-M with three RBIs and a stolen base while Lauren Maulden finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Against the Rams Walley went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple along with two RBIs while pitching another complete game with four strikeouts. Cloud went 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored while Engelhardt went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Beckstrom also went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Meanwhile, Kentlake beat Kentridge 4-3 in an extra innings contest to start the season on March 21, when Melissa Alberts scored the winning run after Brittney Jacobsen ripped the ball up the third baseline in the bottom of the eighth.

Jacobsen finished that game 2-5 with a run scored and an RBI while Alberts was 2-4 and Kellie Nielsen was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Pitcher Hannah Sauget tallied eight strikeouts for the Falcons.

Kentlake traveled to Jefferson the next day for a 12-4 victory but lost to Emerald Ridge in a non-league contest the next afternoon.

Kentwood started its league season with a 4-1 victory over Kentridge on March 22 but dropped a close one, 6-5, to Auburn Riverside on the road the next afternoon.

Kentridge traveled to Tahoma on Tuesday while Kentwood took on Kent-Meridian and Kentlake was on the road against Auburn Riverside.On Wednesday Tahoma played Auburn, Kentridge had the day off, Kentwood hosted Mount Rainier and Kentlake hosted K-M.
