Preps of the Week for Oct. 1-8

COURTNEY JOHNSON, Kentwood

Grade: Senior. Sport: Soccer.

Accomplishment: Johnson, a goalkeeper, worked her fourth straight shutout, helping the Conquerors turn back Auburn on Sept. 30, 2-0.

Favorite class: Peer Tutoring. If you could invite anyone in the world to dinner, whom would you invite, and what would you serve: I would invite my mom, dad and two sisters. We would have ice cream.

Greatest athletic moment: Winning the Class 4A state basketball championship last winter.

Most current book read/author: AP Psychology text book.

What’s on your iPod?: “Just a dream” by Nelly.

Also noted: Johnson sports a 3.8 grade-point average and plans to play basketball in college.

STEPHON VAIFALE, Kentlake

Grade: Junior. Sport: Football.

Accomplishment: Vaifale rushed for closed to 100 yards, including a 39 yard scamper 0 on Oct. 1, helping the Falcons knock off Tahoma 33-21. The win helped Kentlake improve to 5-0.

Favorite class: Spanish 3.

If you could invite anyone in the world to dinner, whom would you invite, and what would you serve: (New Orleans Saints running back) Reggie Bush. He has been my idol since his years at USC. I’d most likely serve a really big dish of my favorite Samoan foods.

Greatest athletic moment: Making a half-court shot in a varsity basketball game or scoring two touchdowns within 50 seconds in the fourth quarter to lead our team to a big rivalry win. Most current book read/author: “Winter in the Blood,” by James Welch. What’s on your iPod?: Classical music, preferably Al Green.

NIKO MADISON, Tahoma

Grade: Senior Sport: Football

Accomplishment: Madison has racked up hundreds of yards on the ground for the Bears already this season. He rushed for 92 yards on 19 carries, including a two yard touchdown run in a losing effort against Kentlake on Oct. 1. Kentlake coach Chris Paulson described Madison as “one of the best running backs around.”

Favorite class: Literature that Inspires

If you could invite anyone in the world to dinner, whom would you invite and what would you serve? Chris Gardner, who the book “The Pursuit of Happyness” is about. I want to know his perception on life after his experiences. I would have seafood pasta because it’s a favorite of mine.

What is your greatest athletic moment: Reaching over 1,000 rushing yards my first year starting on varsity.

What’s currently playing on your iPod? “Fear” by Drake.

Most recent book read/author: “Quiet Strength” by Tony Dungy.

Also noted: Madison carries a 3.4 GPA. He is currently volunteering to help the homeless in Seattle.

Rachelle Frets, Tahoma

Grade: Sophomore Sport: Volleyball

Accomplishment: Frets, an outside hitter for Tahoma, has been putting away kills alongside senior Morgan Murrey this year. The pair have helped the Bears to a perfect 3-0 record in league as of Oct. 5, including wins over Kentwood, Kentlake and Kent-Meridian. She had 22 kills for the Bears in a match against Kent-Meridian on Sept. 30, 14 against Kentlake on Sept. 28 and 15 against Kentwood on Sept. 22.

Favorite class: AP European history

If could invite anyone in the world to dinner, whom would you invite and what would you serve? I would invite my best friend in the whole world, Natalie Davis. I would serve lasagna and garlic bread for the main course. For dessert we would have Oreo cheesecake.

What is your greatest athletic moment: Going to nationals with Kent Juniors U17s. Also going to state with my school team (in 2009).

What’s currently playing on your iPod: “Paper Gangster” by Lady Gaga.

Most recent book read/author: “Ordinary Ghosts” by Eiyeann Corrigan.

Also noted: Frets is a member of the National Honor Society, carrying a 3.7 GPA, who volunteers at Vine Maple Place.
