Tails were wagging and the sound of purrs were in the air as 88 homeless pets went home with new families from the Super Pet Adopt-a-thon hosted Saturday by King County Animal Care and Control in Kent.

Excited pet seekers formed a long line even before the doors opened hoping for the best chance at the animals. By noon more than 700 people had attended the event, which exceeded last year’s attendance by more than 200 people.

Slowly but surely the city of Covington is working on Southeast 272nd Street as it runs through downtown to the Maple Valley border.
Later this summer the next phase of work on state Route 516 will be put out to bid, according to Covington’s Public Works Director Glenn Akramoff, with $2 million of the price tag coming from money allocated by the state Legislature along with a transportation improvement grant

A dispute over the annexation and development of Summit Place, better known as the donut hole, has evolved into a tough-talking battle between the developer and the city of Maple Valley.
Sharply-worded letters were sent to the King County Council from YarrowBay Managing Partner Brian Ross and Maple Valley Mayor Laure Iddings concerning the annexation of the property.
YarrowBay is in process of purchasing the 156-acre site for $51 million from King County. The property is located near 228th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 272nd Street.
