Phillip Douglas Baldwin who was charged with the Sept. 30 rape of a woman in Covington has been charged with a second count of attempted rape by the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s office for a Sept. 22 assault in Ballard.
DRUNK AND PACKING: 20800 block of Kent Kangley Road. A drive was stopped for speeding and arrested for driving under the influence. During the arrest, the officer discovered the driver had a loaded .45 caliber weapon under his leg, but the driver did have a valid concealed weapons permit.

A shootout at a Lakebay home on Key Peninsula in Pierce County Thursday resulted in the death of a 44-year-old man who has been identified as Rhett Cecil Whitchurch from Maple Valley.
Firefighters were dispatched to a commercial vehicle fire at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 28 in the 27200 block of Southeast 216th Street. Responding firefighters observed a trail of oil on the road leading to a school bus which had white smoke coming from the engine compartment. The bus driver told firefighters that the engine was fully involved in fire and he had used two dry chemical fire extinguishers to control the fire.

The final opportunity to wander from stall to stall admiring the fall harvest, the delicate jewelry, the mouth-watering marinated asparagus, fresh goat cheese and gooey cookies. It’s the end of the second season, the end of seventeen weeks filled with local produce and honey, prepared foods, fresh flowers, organic beef, lavender products, spicy rubs and delicious treats.
MARIJUANA: An officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. A routine record check showed the 38-year-old male had a suspended license. Additionally, a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle. Through investigation approximately 13 grams of marijuana and several pieces of drug paraphernalia were found on both the driver and the 40-year-old male passenger. Both subjects were issued criminal citations and released from the scene.
The Maple Valley Creative Arts Council announced an exhibit of the current traveling show of EDGE’s visual artist participants whose artwork consists of fiber art, photography, wood work, metal work, two dimensional fine art, small sculpture, small
furniture and hanging lamps.

Kent Fire Investigators have ruled a house fire where a woman died to have been accidental.
The house fire took place on Monday, Oct. 4 in the 16600 block of Southeast 279 Place. Firefighters from Kent and Maple Valley responded to the two story home after the husband of the victim called 911 when he was unable to enter the bedroom where his wife was located due to the heavy black smoke.

A 20-year-old man, Phillip Douglas Baldwin, who allegedly committed a rape in the Covington area Sept. 30 was arrested Oct. 2 and charged Wednesday by the King County Prosecutor with second degree rape.
Baldwin remains in custody in the King County jail on $750,000 bail.
His arraignment hearing is scheduled for Oct. 18.
