$3,000 apiece from Rotary to graduates

Two 2008 graduating seniors from each of Kent School District’s four high schools, including Kentlake and Kentwood, each received a $3,000 scholarship from Rotary Club of Kent.

Benjamin Hoag and Katherine Taylor of Kentlake, and Kinza Ahmad and Joshua Kutterer of Kentwood High School were among the recipients.

The club invited 100 students to apply for the awards, which are based on coursework, future plans, community involvement and financial need.

The scholarship winners were announced at a banquet May 20 at Green River Community College.

Heidi Solomon of Maple Valley graduated June 15 from Oregon State University after earning a bachelor of science degree in liberal studies.

OSU’s 2008 graduating class of 4,365 students is one of the largest in the school’s history.
