This group was created to help the student with 1-3 years of playing experience develop confidence and skill in playing and performing in a group setting. The orchestra begins its second season of the beginning strings program.

“The local school district in Maple Valley (Tahoma) does not have a string program at this time,” Elisa Lewis said, executive director of the orchestra. “We are hoping to inspire kids who want to play stringed instruments. By starting kids young, we hope to help them develop music, discipline and social habits that last a lifetime.”

According to Lewis, it has been proven in many studies that students who are involved in youth music do better both socially and academically.

The symphony has an orchestra program for students of every playing level. The regular season begins Sept. 13 for intermediate and advanced students, Sept. 27 for beginning strings and Sept. 29 for the debut orchestra.
