Maple Valley Rotary sponsored Reading to a Rescue Day at the Maple Valley Community Center March 30. The event took place through the Tahoma Interact Club at the high school, according to Tahoma staff member Vicki Manning. She said Interact Club is a community service club at Tahoma. The Reading to a Rescue program got started last year when the school was looking for a literacy program for students to participate in. At the event, kids in elementary school are able to pick a grade level appropriate book to read to a dog that is available for adoption from Smidget Rescue, which is a primarily small dog rescue.
