King County Executive, Seattle Mayor to announce task force for region’s heroin epidemic

King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray on Tuesday will announce a task force to confront the heroin and prescription opiate epidemic that has become increasingly lethal across the region.

King County Executive Dow Constantine and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray on Tuesday will announce a task force to confront the heroin and prescription opiate epidemic that has become increasingly lethal across the region. The task force will include a wide range of experts from public health, human services, law enforcement, hospitals, the University of Washington, treatment providers and other disciplines.

Members of the task force — including Public Health Officer Jeff Duchin, MD, and Dr. Caleb Banta-Green, an epidemiologist at the University of Washington — will be available to answer questions. They’ll be joined by King County Sheriff John Urquhart and Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus.
