The cities of Maple Valley, Covington and Black Diamond will be participating in the 28th Annual National Night Out (NNO), a crime and drug prevention event on Aug 2.
It is co-sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), Maple Valley Police, King County Sheriff, Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety and Target.
NNO is a nationally-held event designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anticrime efforts as well as strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships.
Black Diamond
The Black Diamond Police and Fire Departments along with the Black Diamond Community Center will be hosting a party at 5 p.m. at the Black Diamond Community Center.
From 7 to 10 p.m., residents in neighborhoods throughout Black Diamond and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
There will be a free BBQ that will include hotdogs, chips, cookies, soda pop and various other homemade potluck dishes. A tour of the fire engine and police car will be available. There will also be a chance to meet the local police officers and fire-fighters, who will be present to answer any questions and provide crime and fire prevention tips.
The Community Center is located at located at 31605 Third Avenue.
Several other outdoor block parties will be taking place at the Eagle Creek Park located on the corner of Bruckners Way and Roberts Drive, in the Morgan Creek housing neighborhood and the Black Diamond Elementary School located at 25314 Baker Street.
The Black Diamond Police Officers will be cruising from neighborhood to neighborhood to attend each party.

Maple Valley
Maple Valley Police Department will be hosting the event 7:30 p.m. at the Glacier Valley Community Park. The park is located at the intersection of Southeast 281 Street and 238 Avenue Southeast.
Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, neighborhoods in Maple Valley celebrate NNO with a variety of events and activities such as block parties, cookouts, visits from local police and fire department, flashlight walks and contests.
King County Sheriff Office’s Guardian One will landing at the Park. The event is expected to draw around 350 people.
