SeaTac- A 27 year old man was shot by police early Thursday morning while trying to run over an officer as he fled from a robbery.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a man being punched and robbed at a mosque near S150 St and 30 Ave S in the city of SeaTac.

The victim told officers that he went into the mosque to pray and was confronted by the suspect who had been sleeping inside. The suspect punched the victim in the head numerous times and took his wallet and car keys. The victim was able to get away and call 911.

Officers arrived and were on foot in the area when the suspect emerged from behind the mosque in the victim’s vehicle.  The suspect was fired upon by one officer as the suspect accelerated towards another officer that was running to avoid being struck by the vehicle.

The suspect continued driving through a large tent that serves as a prayer area that was set up in the back of the mosque, and drove through a neighbor’s fence where the vehicle rolled over and came to rest upside down.

The suspect was arrested and taken to Harborview Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound to his shoulder.

The officers were not injured during the incident.  The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on paid administrative leave which is routine in officer involved shootings.
