More than 50 people volunteered at Lake Wilderness Arboretum Oct. 25 in support of Maple Valley Make a Difference Day.

The volunteers worked on four projects coordinated by Susan Goodell, the Arboretum’s Garden Manager.

Other items of note:

• Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation Board Member Sarah Schumacher led a team that cleared a large area in the woods near the nursery, the first step in adapting it as a future natural play area for children.
• Lynette Case led Boy Scout Troop 711 among others, improving the main looping trail near the front entrance.
• Ankie Stroes and the Master Gardeners led a group that dug a trench and laid chipped wood near the Tribal Life Trail and the meadow.
• Bill Paine led a team that cleared an area in the Smith-Mossman Azalea Garden, which complemented much of the work that was completed by volunteers during the United Way Day of Caring in September.

“We thank everyone who contributed to the success of the day,” says Goodell. “For 14 years, Maple Valley has passionately supported local organizations on the nation’s largest day of community service. It’s truly a joy to be involved.”
