What’s blooming at Lake Wilderness Arboretum | March 24

Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 Student Art Contest.

Congratulations to the winners of the 2014 Student Art Contest.

In the Grade 9 category, “Secret Garden2” by Caitlin Hughes is inspired by a 7th grade field trip to the arboretum.

‘Walking through a path engulfed with flowers, it was breathtaking, and to make it better, there was a cute little pond with fish,” Hughes said.

Emma Rochleau, Grade 7, is also inspired by walks in the arboretum.

“I named my artwork ‘The Endless Beauty’ because I walk along the paths and I see an endless variety of flowers, plants, and trees of all shapes and sizes,” Rochleau said. “The paths seem endless. While you’re strolling through, it’s a beautiful sight.”

Fourth grader McKenna Miner has won for her artwork, “Gazebo.”

“When I think of the arboretum, the gazebo is the first thing that comes to mind,” Miner said.

Phoebe Chien, also in Grade 4, created a triptych-style original piece entitled, “Boom! Boom!”, which illustrates Maple Valley’s July 4th fireworks show over Lake Wilderness viewed from the arboretum’s hiking trail.

The original artwork is on display at the Maple Valley Publish Library through April.
