Black Diamond to participate in ‘Chief for a Day’ event Aug. 16

Black Diamond will participate in the Chief for a Day event on Thursday, Aug. 16 in partnership with 26 Washington State law enforcement agencies and the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
The event celebrates the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a chronic illness.
Black Diamond’s 2012 Little Chief is Isaiah Weever.
Weever, 12, who was recently adopted from the Ashley House by a family. His newly adopted mother had previously been his school teacher.
He enjoys playing basketball and collecting unique drumsticks. He will also be introduced to the Black Diamond City Council on Thursday, July 19.
The motorcade will arrive at the Washington State Training Commission between 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., with the swearing-in ceremony beginning upon arrival.
Lunch will then be held from noon until 1 p.m. and the outside presentations will be held from 1-3 p.m.
Each child will be transported via police motorcade from Qwest Field to the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
In addition to each child having a hand-tailored uniform from their sponsoring agency, each child will be sworn is as “Chief” or “Sheriff” for the day, pinned with a badge designed specifically for this 2012 event.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the new Chiefs and Sheriffs will then experience outside presentations made by local law enforcement agencies, including K-9 units, mounted horse patrol, SWAT teams, rifle units, a police helicopter, and more.
