Tahoma and Kentlake have strong showins at district meet | Boys Swim and Dive

Kentlake had another strong postseason showing at the West Central District meet last weekend at Rogers High.
Tanner Keeling-Garcia led the Falcons, who finished seventh as a team, with a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.25 seconds and a district title in the 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:1.87 seconds.
Erik Fulmer added solid performances for Kentlake, as well, winning the consolation final in a state qualifying time of 2:03. 85 in the 200 individual medley along with a sixth place finish in the 100 free.
Christian Knoblock, a senior, posted a sixth place finish in the 100 free to go with a state qualifying swim of 22.79 seconds in the 50 free.
Kentlake’s relays also performed well as the 200 free team finished third and posted a state qualifying time of 1:32.57 while the 400 free team finished fourth, also touching the wall with a state qualifying time.
Meanwhile, Tahoma also had good swims from its relays as the 200 medley relay finished eighth overall and second in the consolation final, while the 400 free relay finished sixth.
Stephen Shin finished sixth in the 100 fly in 55 seconds flat. He also finished sixth in the 100 backstroke with a state qualifying time 57.24 seconds.
Sophomore Mitch Halbert finished third in the 50 free consolation final for Tahoma.
The Bears finished in 10th as a team out of 21.
Tahoma’s Ben Price finished 11th in the dive competition while Kentwood’s Jesse Dehnert finished seventh.
The state meet is Feb. 18-19 at the King County Aquatic Center.
