Current members of Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra hope to be joined by new ones starting this month.

Regular Monday rehearsals for the Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra will begin Sept. 8, and students with two or more years of experience with an instrument are invited to join.

Conductor April Whyte plans to split the musicians into two orchestras. The Philharmonia group for intermediate players will meet from 6 to 8:10 p.m. The Symphony group, for advanced players, will rehearse from 7 to 9 p.m.

An informal audition is set for Sept. 29. “We’re trying to make the whole audition process less intimidating,” Whyte said. “By the third week, we will pretty much know if a student is in the ensemble that offers them the best potential for growth.”
