Zenovit put it all together Saturday and scored a 2 ¼- length victory over huge long shot Private Fortune the $75,000 Washington Oaks at Emerald Downs.

In capturing the track’s championship event for 3-year-old fillies, Zenovit ran one and one-eighth miles in 1 minute, 49 2/5 seconds on a fast track—the fastest winning time in the Oaks since 2004—and paid $17.60, $7.40 and $6.20. Larry Ross is the trainer for owners Dana Claxton and Gail and Gerald Schneider of Auburn, Wash.

Ricky Frazier, riding his eighth stakes winner of the meeting and his record 70th all-time at Emerald Downs, rode Zenovit at 120 lbs.

A Washington-bred by Private Gold, Zenovit earned $41,250 to increase her bankroll to $76,338. She has a 3-2-1 record in nine starts, but had never won a stakes prior to the Oaks.

In striking range early, Zenovit blew past My Untamed Heart into the lane, opened a three-length lead past mid-stretch and proved clearly best. Frazier said he waited as long as possible before turning the bay filly loose.

“I knew there would be a possibility of some horses closing, but I didn’t hear anybody coming,” Frazier said. “She was full of run. I wasn’t sure if shoe could handle the distance, but I had to hope for the best.”

Private Fortune, a 45-to-1 shot ridden by Troy Stilwell at 120 lbs, emerged from the pack to chase the winner home, but had to settle for second place. Private Fortune paid $37 and $11.20.

Soul Custody, a 23-to-1 shot ridden by Kevin Krigger at 120 lbs, finished third and paid $12.80. Canadian shippers Dearest Princess and Otero finished fourth and fifth, and Rewritten, the 3.30-to-1 betting favorite, failed to rally and finished sixth.

My Untamed Heart, who set the pace with fractions of :22 4/5, :46 3/5 and 1:10 4/5, gave way on the last turn and finished seventh. Lilly’s a Jewel, Runaway Speed, Sky Tribute and Sis’s Sis completed the order of finish.
