Winners advance, season ends for others

As the school year comes to a close, some high school teams played their final games of the season. While other's continued winning ways to advance farther into the post season.

Baseball

The West Central District 3 tournament began May 10 and ran through May 14.

The Kentwood Conquerors faced Timberline in the first round and won 4-1.

The win advanced Kentwood to the semi final round May 14.

The Conks lost its next game 6-2 to Puyallup. The loss sent Kentwood to face Gig Harbor in a seeding game.

Kentwood won that game 3-1 and enters the state tournament at the No. 3 seed.

For Kentlake and Tahoma, the season is over.

The Falcons won the first round game 1-0 over Yelm but lost 6-1 to Thomas Jefferson on May 11.

Tahoma had a first round game 6-0 loss to Gig Harbor sending the Bears to the loser out bracket. Tahoma beat Kentridge 7-2 to keep its season alive but later fell 8-6 to Emerald Ridge.

The regional round of the state tournament begins May 21 with Kentwood facing Walla Walla at 10 a.m. at Heritage Park.

Softball

The, then undefeated, Tahoma Bears lost its first game of the season 7-4 to Puyallup May 13.

The West Central District 3 tournament began today, May 20 and runs through Saturday.

The Bears first game of the tourney is against Graham Kapowsin at 4:30 p.m.

The South Puget Sound League 4A North division second place Kentlake Falcons face the 12-7 Federal Way Eagles at 4:30 p.m. today.

Both Tahoma and Kentlake would have to win two games to advance to the semi final round.

If they do so, the Bears and Falcons will face off at 2 p.m. May 21.

All tournament games are being played at the Kent Service Club Ballfields.

Boys Soccer

The Bears are heading to state as the No. 1 seed coming off winning the West Central District 3 tournament Saturday.

Tahoma beat Rogers 4-2 May 10, won 2-0 over Thomas Jefferson and then beat Puyallup 3-1.

The Conks advance to state as the No. 2 seed after beating Kentridge 2-1 May 14.

The first round of state began May 16.

Tahoma host Kentridge May 17, after the press deadline. If the Bears won, it advances to a game scheduled for May 19-21.

Kentwood hosted Wenatchee Wednesday at French Field. If the Conks won, its next game is also scheduled for May 19-21.

Dates, times and locations for the second round games are still to be determined.

Girls Tennis

The 4A girls tennis tournament is scheduled for today, May 20 through Saturday at the Boeing Tennis Center.

Kentwood is sending two double teams. The top six will advance to the state tournament.

And Tahoma is sending one singles player to the 4A district tourney.

Senior Kianna Rem played at 9 a.m. today in the first round.

The state tournament begins May 27.

Boys and Girls Golf

On May 16 at the Gold Mountain Golf Course, 4A West Central District 3 qualifying tournament was held.

Abigail Mozzone from Tahoma scored a 91 and qualified for state. Joining her was Gillian Huylar, also from Tahoma, who scored a 95.

On the boys side, Justin Pederson from Tahoma. Pederson scored a 85 during the qualifier round.

State begins May 24 and runs through the 25th.

The boys will play at the Meadow Springs Country Club in Richland and girls will play at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Track and Field

Tahoma, Kentwood and Kentlake participated in the SPSL league championships Friday at French Field.

The 4A districts will also be hosted at French Field May 19 through 21.
