Monthly meeting next week

The Greater Maple Valley Unincorporated Area Council is hosting its monthly meeting from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, March 4 at Maple Valley Fire Station No. 81.

This month’s meeting will include two guest speakers — Tim O’Connor and Alan Noell from the state Department of Ecology to discuss the Reserve Silica Mine Site Model Toxics Control Act Cleanup and Jerome Cruz and Brad Petrovich from the department to discuss the Landsburg Mine Site cleanup.

Hazardous waste collection

King County’s Wastemobile will hold a collection event March 8-10 in Covington at Puget Sound Fire Station No. 75, 15635 SE 272nd St., Kent.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Residents can drop of household hazardous items including pesticides, oil-based paints, automotive products, fluorescent bulbs and other items without charge.
