This September wins in August at Emerald Downs

This September gained command into the stretch and drew away for a 4 ¼-length victory Thursday in the Stanislaw Ashbaugh Purse for fillies and mares at Emerald Downs.

With Seth Martinez riding, This September covered six furlongs in 1 minute, 9 2/5 seconds on a sloppy track and paid $10.80, $5.40 and $4. Dan Markle is the trainer for owners Sue and Tim Spooner of Olympia.

A Washington-bred 4-year-old by Tribunal, This September broke an 11-race losing streak that dated to July 11, 2008. The filly had been close in several races, however, including four runner-up finishes in 2009.

Thursday, she swept past My Thistle and Perhaps Perhaps into the lane, kicking 2 ½ lengths clear at the eighth pole, and drew off late.

Wave Her On, ridden by Troy Stillwell, rallied inside to finish second and paid $5 and $5. Pete’s Glory Girl, the first horse with 10 starts at the meet, finished third under Cassie Papineau and returned $6.

This September has an overall mark of 3-6-1 in 17 starts with $31,643 in earnings.

Martinez and Troy Stilwell rode two winners each on the eight-race card.
