Tahoma in thick of fastpitch race

It’s been a rough patch for Tahoma High fastpitch during the past week, but the Bears did manage to heat up on Tuesday to stop a short skid.

Against Auburn Riverside on March 30, Tahoma’s bats went cold, as the Bears managed only two hits on a 1-0 loss to the Ravens.

Sammi Jimenez and Hailey Granlund each had singles in the game for Tahoma.

Last Friday, Kentwood beat Tahoma, 5-1 despite offensive output from several Bears players.

Emily Miller was 1-3 with a double and Hayley Beckstrom was 2-2 with a pair of singles. Jimenez, Lisa Maulden and Alex Clyatt all added singles.

Jimenez also pitched a complete game for the Bears and struck out six despite giving up six hits.

On Tuesday Tahoma had a significant bright spot, particularly with its bats, in an 8-1 win over Auburn which brought its overall record to 4-5 and league record to 2-3.

Granlund went 3-3 at the plate against the Trojans with three singles and a pair of RBIs, while Jimenez was 2-4 while collecting three RBIs, and Shelby Carter also picked up two RBIs on 1-3 hitting at the plate.

Clyatt went 2-4 with a pair of singles and a stolen base.

Jimenez racked up another complete game for Tahoma giving up two hits and striking out eight.

Tahoma faced Federal Way on Wednesday after the Reporter’s deadline.
