Tahoma High shortstop signs letter of intent with UNLV

Tahoma High shortstop Taylor Smart proved hard work and talent payoff in both life and baseball, and now he is going to be a Rebel.

Smart signed a letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

He said UNLV was his choice because, “There’s a good chance I can play right away.”

Smart said Rebel coach Buddy Gouldsmith wants him at shortstop, which has been his position with Tahoma High.

“The coach said their shortstop is going to get drafted and they want me to play,” Smart said.

Tahoma baseball coach Russ Hayden said, “if any kid deserves this it’s Taylor. He works hard and hits seven days a week. He is totally dedicated to this sport.”

Smart will play one more season with the Tahoma Bears before heading to UNLV in the fall of 2010 to become a Rebel.
