Tahoma High grad Derek Eager heads to Pan Am Junior Championship

Tahoma High graduate Derek Eager picked up another championship June 23, winning the javelin event at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field National Championship at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Tahoma High graduate Derek Eager picked up another championship June 23, winning the javelin event at the USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field National Championship at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Eager won the event with a throw of 227 feet, 1 inch. The victory earned Eager a spot in the Pan Am Junior Championship July 22-24 in Miramar, Florida.

Eager graduated from Tahoma in 2010. He swept the South Puget Sound League and district championships in the javelin, discus and shot put. At the state meet Eager won the javelin and discus title and came in second in the shot put.

He has completed his freshman year at UCLA and is back home in Maple Valley. Eager said he will spend the next four weeks preparing for the PanAm Junior games.
