Swimmers, divers qualify for state championship | 4A

Swimmers and divers competed at the 4A districts championships at Curtis High School on Oct. 30 and 31.

The 4A state championship is Saturday, Nov. 14 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Below are swimmers and divers who will be representing Tahoma and Kentlake at state.

Tahoma

Through a wild card process, the Bears 200 yard medley relay team consisting of Amy Gill, Brooke Bailey, Bridget Duven and Hannah Adam secured a spot at state.

Swimming the 50 yard freestyle, junior Lindsey Hanger came in first place at districts with a final time of 24.74.

Hanger will represent the Bears at state.

Tahoma Bear diver Ashley Lewis finished in first place at districts with a final score of 353.15.

Lewis along with sophomore Makayla Millard will compete at state.

Millard came in fourth with a total score of 324.25.

Swimming the 100 yard freestyle, Hanger came in second place at districts with a final time of 53.10.

Also qualifying for state is the Bears’ 200 yard freestyle relay team.

The team consists of Adam, Bailey, Iliana Hammerstrom and Hanger.

The team placed fifth at districts with a total time of 1:46.62.

And finally Tahoma’s 400 yard freestyle relay team qualified for state.

The Bears finished in fifth place at districts with a total time of 3:50.07.

The relay team consists of swimmers Duven, Shauna Monahan, Olivia Halbert and Hanger.

As a team, the Bears finished in fifth place out of 19 schools.

Kentlake

Senior Avalyne Peters who swam the 50 yard freestyle at districts and finished in fourth place with 25.66 will compete at the state championship meet Saturday.

Junior diver Katie Beliveau finished in second place during district’s behind Tahoma’s Lewis.

Beliveau’s score was 349.25.

She qualified to represent the Falcons at Saturday’s state championship.

Similar to Tahoma’s 200 yard medley relay team, Peters qualified for state through a wild card process, Coach Brad Williams said.

Peters swam the 100 yard freestyle and finished with a total time of 57.19.

The Falcons’ 200 yard freestyle relay team finished sixth at districts, just making the cut for the state championship.

The relay team consists of Peters, Sarah Ruckman, Ashtyn Collins and Allie Losacco.

Their final time at districts was 1:47.39.

The Falcons placed ninth overall at the districts meet.

Kentwood

The Conquerors had a few swimmers compete at the 4A districts meet, however no one qualified to continue their season at the state championship this weekend.

As a team, the Conks finished in 12th place with 53 points.
