Sis’s Sis seeks her third straight victory in Sunday’s $50,000 Irish Day Handicap for 3-year-old fillies at a mile. The stakes is the first route leading up to the $75,000 Washington Oaks on Aug. 14.

The Cahill Road filly, owned by Maple Valley residents Michael and Amy Michael Feuerborn, makes her 2010 stakes debut after an impressive three-quarter-length victory over stablemate Sweet Nellie Brown on May 15.

Sis’s Sis (5-3-0-0-$24,885) stalked the early leaders, moved up alongside betting favorite Sweet Nellie Brown in a classic stretch duel, where both Jim Penney-trainees separated themselves from the field by more than five lengths. Sis’s Sis crossed the wire first in 1 minute, 8 3/5 seconds.

“I was very pleased with her last race,” Michael Feuerborn said. “I hope Sis’s Sis continues to improve.”

Sis’s Sis and jockey Juan Gutierrez will break from the two-hole in a talented 12-horse field that includes Federal Way Handicap winner and likely favorite Feeling Fancy (6-3-0-0-$51,835) plus stakes-winners Knight Raider (8-4-1-0-$90,393) and Have’n a Wild Time (6-1-2-1-$44,790). Assistant trainer Kay Cooper doesn’t think the field’s size or talent will intimidate Sis’s Sis.

“She’s pretty gutsy,” Cooper said. “At first, we weren’t sure if she had the quality (for stakes company), but I had a feeling she did.”

The Penney barn is full of stakes-caliber sophomore fillies. The barn has another weapon Sunday, with Private Fortune (9-1-3-2-$34,015), who gave a solid effort in the Federal Way with a third-place finish for owner Blue Ribbon Racing No. 2.

Along with Sweet Nellie Brown, the barn has Include the Baby, who is also owned by the Feuerborns. Include the Baby was the 8-5 betting favorite in the Federal Way Handicap, until she was scratched after flipping in the gate. Cooper said that she expects both fillies to run in an allowance race in late June and possibly a stakes race down the road.

The field for the 15th running of the Irish Day Handicap is (Race 6, 4:38 p.m.): Soul Custody, Kevin Krigger, 113; Sis’s Sis, Gutierrez, 116; Zenovit, Seth Martinez, 115; Tapit So Lightly, Anne Von Rosen, 114; Runaway Speed, Deborah Hoonan-Trujillo, 114; Knight Raider, Ricky Frazier, 119; Feeling Fancy, Francisco Duran, 117; Hearts Valentine, Robert Burney, 112; Private Fortune, Gallyn Mitchell, 115; Ghost Girl, Inoel Beato, 114; Sheza Foxy Jackpot, Troy Stillwell, 115; Have’n a Wild Time, Pedro Terrero, 116.
