Last season the Conquerors finished second in the West Central District and sixth in state.

Its overall record for the 2014 season was 24-5 and in district play, the Conks only lost one game ending with an 12-1 record, coach Blake Solomon said.

That only district loss for Kentwood came in January to the state champion Federal Way Eagles.

The Conks graduated league Most Valuable Player Malik Sanchez, first team all league Preston White, Marcus LuBom, Josiah Bronson and Brandon Stribling.

New to the team are Beau Roggenbach Jr. and Koby Huerta Jr., Solomon said.

Two of the returning players were starters last season and Solomon said this year’s team will be “athletic and very skilled.”

Solomon added the team “likes to play up-tempo and pressure on defense.”

In late December, Kentwood will travel east to play in the Idaho Tournament.

“If our guys can work hard and come together we can have an even better year this season than we did last year,” Solomon said.
