Kentwood wins 4A state boys basketball championship

Kentwood 81 Union 61

Kentwood won the 2017 4A state boys basketball championship Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome beating Union 81 to 61

Rayvaughn Bolton lead the scoring with 19 and point guard Darius LuBom saved his best game for the title match scoring 19 with six boards and seven assists. Koby Huerta added 16 points and Beau Roggenbach scored seven.

The game was tight in the first half with Union leading at the end of the second 39-37.

That story turned around in the third when LuBom came out and led his team on a scorching run of points, rebounds and smothering defense.

Union was not able to keep up with the Conks speed and began sending Kentwood to the line when the Conks weren’t scoring.

The fourth opened with Huerta hitting a three and the game was over but for the clock.

It is the first title for the Conks since 2010 and the second trip to the finals two years. The team lost to Federal Way last year.

This season the Conks were on a mission and the it was completed shortly after 11:25 p.m.
