Kentlake competes against Kentridge | Track and field

The Kentridge and Kentlake boys and girls track teams competed against each other at Kent-Meridian on Wednesday, April 25.

The Kentridge and Kentlake boys and girls track teams competed against each other at Kent-Meridian on Wednesday, April 25.

Falcons senior Trevor Davidson won the 100 meters with a time of 11.47 seconds, a new personal record, for the Kentlake boys. Junior Alexander Martinex won the two mile with a time of 10:01.37. In field events, junior Jake Bailey won the shot put and the discus with throws of 42 feet, 3.5 inches and 122 feet, one inch, respectively.

Kentlake sophomore Matt Dispenza won the high jump, making a vertical leap of six feet. Sophomore Vincent Menickelly won the long jump after leaping 18 feet, 7.75 inches. Sophomore Malik Arrington tied with Chargers senior Reggie Collins for first place in the triple jump, with a combined leap of 38 feet, 4.5 inches.

For the Falcons girls team, freshman Timary Mathena won the 100 meters with a time of 13.64. Junior Marisa Lytle won the 200 meters and the 400 meters. She ran the 200 meters in 27.61, a new personal record, and 1:02.01, breaking her old personal record by half a second. Senior Megan Rogers won the two mile, finishing at 12:46.61. Junior Tori Lanza took first in the 100 and 300 hurdles, finishing at 16.42 and 47.38 respectively.

The 400 relay team, comprised of Lanza, Brittany Lydon, Lytle, and Mathena took first with a time of 53.17. Their 800 meter relay team also won with a time of 2:02.09. Senior Virginia Kepler won the discus with a throw of 92 feet, seven inches.

For the Kentridge boys, senior Kaid Tipton led the boys team with a first place in the 200 meters, the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. He ran a time of 23.23 in the 200, a new personal record by .5 second, a time of 14.82 in the 100 hurdles and a time of 40.31 in the 300 hurdles. Collins took first in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line at 52.32.

Sophomore Luke Russell won the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.44, a one-second improvement over his previous personal record. Senior Talon Abernathy won the mile with a time of 4:29.84. The 400 relay team, comprised of Alec McKenzie, Tipton, Derrick Bell and Antony Randolph took first with a time of 45.15.

Their 1,600 meter relay team also took first, with Kevin Hall, Grant Wilson, Taylor Thompson and Collins running a combined time of 3:38.09. Hall took first in the javelin with a throw of 124 feet, one inch. Freshman Jake Philpott won the pole vault after vaulting 11 feet, a foot and a half improvement over his previous personal record.

Chargers junior Kenedy Ramos won the 800 meters with a time of 2:36.33 for the girls team. Senior Molly Shiroishi won the mile with a time of 5:28.82. Their 1,600 meter relay team, comprised of Abby Klinkenberg, Caitlin Easterling, Annalise Kress and Shiroishi took first with a combined time of 4:28.50. In field events, freshman Kiki Gilbert won the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 11.5 inches.

Senior Aurora Varela won the high jump and the triple jump. She made a vertical leap of four feet, 10 inches, tying with her personal record set at the April 19 meet against Mt. Rainier, and jumped a horizontal distance of 32 feet, eight inches.

Sophomore Joyce Lin won the pole vault and the long jump, vaulting at height of eight feet, six inches and jumping a distance of 16 feet.
