With Pedro Terrero riding his third winner of the day, Harbor Wind ran six furlongs in 1:09.99 on a fast track and paid $3.20, $2.20 and $2.10. Frank Lucarelli is the trainer for Z Thoroughbred Racing Partners I.

Lucarelli saddled four winners on the 10-race card and leapfrogged past Howard Belvoir 49-47 atop the trainers’ standings.

Eileen Is a Saint, also trained by Lucarelli, finished second under Leslie Mawing and paid $4.20 and $2.20. First-time starter Memphis Beach raced greenly but got rolling late to finish third and paid $2.40, while Coco’s Honor finished last.

Orlando Xpress, Ferociously and Cardinals Gold were all late scratches at the starting gate.

A Washington-bred by Harbor the Gold-Bon Jour Paris, Harbor Wind has won two straight, and is 2-0-2 in four starts lifetime with earnings of  $22,745. Sunday, he shook off Coco’s Honor into the turn, opened a five-length lead into the stretch and widened the gap through the lane.

Although he rode the second-place finisher in the feature, Mawing added four more wins Sunday and finished the week with 14 wins to tie Chelsea Zupan’s track record for most wins in a four-day week. Mawing rode three winners Thursday, two on Friday, five on Saturday and four on Sunday.

Moreover, Mawing has ridden at least one winner on 15 straight cards, and at least two winners on the last seven programs. Since Aug. 12, the 37-year-old South African has won on 34-of-98 mounts to turn the jockeys’ race into a runaway. With nine days left in the 82-day meet, Mawing now leads Juan Gutierrez by a 116-88 margin.

Lucarelli, meanwhile, has saddled 21 winners since Aug. 1 to overtake Belvoir atop the standings. The trainers’ race, however, figures to go down to the wire.
