Entering Friday’s league match up, the Kentlake Falcons and Kentridge Chargers were tied for first place.
Both had an 11-3 overall record.
And both had 3-0 South Puget Sound League records.
The Chargers traveled to Kentlake to battle for the top spot.
The game went into overtime and the Falcons won on a pair of free throws from sophomore Karizma Loeffler giving Kentlake sole position of the No. 1 spot.
With 2.7 seconds remaining in the game, Loeffler stepped to the line with the chance not only to tie the game but to win.
In the remaining seconds following Loeffler’s free throws, the Chargers in bounded the ball but the throw down court fell short as the buzzer sounded.
In the first half, the Falcons led the Chargers by as many as 10 points.
The Falcons led the Chargers by one, 22-21 at the half.
And junior Sydney Peterson scored eight in a row to give Kentlake a 10-4 lead in the first quarter.
Peterson finished the game with a game-high 17 points.
Ten of those coming in the first half.
Peterson came in clutch in overtime when she was fouled while driving to the basket.
She gave Kentlake a 47-45 lead with less than a minute to play in overtime.
Sophomore Aniston Denckla finished the game with 10 points for the Falcons.
She broke the tie at 42 with a pair of free throws with 23.5 seconds remaining regulation.
The Falcons have outscored its opponents 514-400 so far this season.
Up next is another home game when Kentlake hosts league opponent Tahoma in the Falcons’ final home game of the regular season.
The Bears are in third place in the SPSL 4A with a 3-2 league record and 12-4 overall.
