Former Kentwood star Smith scores 25 in Georgetown debut

Smith, a 6-foot-10, 350-pound junior center, scored a team-high 25 points in a 82-75 loss to Oregon Nov. 8 in the Armed Forces Classic in South Korea.

Former Kentwood High School star Joshua Smith had quite the debut with the Georgetown University men’s basketball team.

Smith, a 6-foot-10, 350-pound junior center, scored a team-high 25 points in a 82-75 loss to Oregon Nov. 8 in the Armed Forces Classic in South Korea.

Smith, of Kent, transferred to the Washington, D.C., school this season after playing two years at UCLA. Smith left UCLA for personal reasons after playing six games last season.

He helped Kentwood to the 2010 4A state championship during his senior season as the Conquerors went 21-10 and 11-5 in the South Puget Sound League 4A North. He scored a game-high 22 points, grabbing 16 rebounds and handed out five assists in a 67-58 win over Jackson in the state title game.
