Federal Way dispatches Tahoma in first round of West Central District playoffs | Girls Basketball

Fourth-ranked Federal Way had its way with Tahoma winning the first round of the West Central District playoffs 75-40. The Bears kept up with the Eagles much of the first quarter and were down 18-14 when the period ended.

Federal Way’s balanced scoring attack – which was without leading scorer Talia Walton – dominated the second quarter with a strong inside-out game. In the second period the Eagles outscored the Bears 25-6.

Tahoma continued to struggle to score as Federal Way took the he lead to 59-28 by the end of the third quarter.

Halfway through the first quarter the Federal Way coach admonished his players to contain Katie Buskey. At the point the Eagles had a 14-8 lead.

And contain they did. Buskey was held to 11 points in the contest.

Federal Way also held Jordan Eberhardt, Tahoma’s No. 2 scorer to 11 points.

Meanwhile four Eagles players had double digit scoring nights with Darah Huertas-Vining leading the way with 20 points while Brittany Barrington had 15, Dyesha Bellhumeur tallied 14 and Raven Benton collected 11 points.

Tahoma will take on Olympia, which lost to Skyview tonight, at 6 p.m. Friday at Lakes High School.
