Covington resident Steve Glenn wins ninth race of Pawn X-Change Drag Race Series at Pacific Raceways

Steve Glenn can add another trophy to his collection. Glenn, who lives in Covington, wheeled his 1955 Chevy Handyman's Wagon to a final round victory over Mark Campbell's hard charging Camaro to claim the Super Pro win at the ninth race of the Pawn X-Change Drag Race Series race July 16 at Pacific Raceways. Both drivers posted .024 reaction times in a race that was decided by inches at the finish line.

Glenn, who lives in Covington, wheeled his 1955 Chevy Handyman’s Wagon to a final round victory over Mark Campbell’s hard charging Camaro to claim the Super Pro win at the ninth race of the Pawn X-Change Drag Race Series race July 16 at Pacific Raceways. Both drivers posted .024 reaction times in a race that was decided by inches at the finish line.

In order to stay in the hunt for the points championship in the Super Pro class, Glenn had to win the final, as he is chasing points leader Tim Schmitt of Everett. Glenn, Al Chinn and Dale Green are all breathing down Schmitt’s neck.

Another Covington resident picked up some hardware in Real Street when John Eldridge beat Daniel Holt of Renton in a battle of 1966 Chevys.

In Pro, North Bend’s John Schwaller had the starting line advantage but gave it back at the finish line to Sumner’s Todd Kenner, who picked up the win with at 9.678 at 139.63 mph in a 1972 Cuda. It was Schwaller’s first final round appearance of the season in his wheel-standing El Camino.

Paul Young and his 1966 Pontiac picked up the Sportsman win over Chris Johnston, who red lit.

In Motorcycle, Mill Creek’s Jacob Havens padded his points lead with a victory of Jim Funderburg, who suffered a mechanical issue in the final round.

In the Second Chance race, the 1988 Mazda of Richland’s Andrea Sneed took down the ultra-quick dragster of Kevin Rennick. Sneed parlayed a .020 reaction time to beat Rennick.

In Mod Street, Wally Friedlander of Olympia beat Jeremy Cody for the win. Other winners included Pat Hermanson of Eatonville (Outlaw 10.5); Westport’s Jeff Dungey (Pro street); and Brian Sipe of Arlington (Hot Street).

The second to the last Pawn X-Change Drag Race Series event is slated for Saturday.  Gates open at 4:30 with racing at 5 p.m.  The race will also feature a KZOK Challenge and the Seattle cover band Fallback will be playing in the paddock area. General admission is $12.
