The Lake Wilderness Arboretum is celebrating 50 years of volunteers and many of the organization’s annual events will feature this theme.

During the first quarter of 2015, kids can create an original artwork and enter it into the Student Art Contest.

A popular fundraising event, the Hellebore Tea in March features food, drink, a silent auction and hellebores at Lake Wilderness Lodge.

In early spring, the Western Azalea Celebration celebrates peak bloom time in the Smith-Mossman Azalea Garden, and in mid-summer, the Fuchsia Festival features casual dining and refreshments set among the fuchsia plants in full bloom.

The fall brings United Way’s Day of Caring and Maple Valley Make A Difference Day, volunteer events that bring together the entire community in service.

The arboretum’s plant sale takes place in May and September, and the year is topped off with the annual Holiday Lights at the Lodge display in December.

“A special thanks to everyone who helped us this year and in years past,” said Noel Paterson, president of the Lake Wilderness Arboretum Foundation. “We hope to see you in 2015.”
