Three car collison late Tuesday leaves one dead, five injured

A 62 year old man from Seattle is dead following a three car collison on state Route 18 near Covington at mile post 11 around 10 p.m. Sept. 13.

A 62 year old man from Seattle is dead following a three car collison on state Route 18 near Covington at mile post 11 around 10 p.m. Sept. 13.

He was transported to Harborview Medical Center but later died from his injuries around 5 a.m. Sept. 14.

A 19 year old man from Maple Valley driving alone was injured during the crash and transported to Harborview Medical Center.

The third vehicle was driven by a 29 year old woman from Covington. She was also injured and was taken to Auburn Medical Center.

In her vehicle were three children, ages 6, 8 and 11. All three were injured and also transported to Auburn Medical Center.

The 62 year old man was driving westbound in eastbound lanes of SR 18 when his vehicle hit the 19 year old’s vehicle head on.

After the hit the vehicle traveling the wrong direction stopped in the far lane and the hit vehicle came to a stop in the center median.

Because the 62 year old’s vehicle stopped in the lane the third vehicle was traveling in, the vehicles collided. Both came to a stop on the right shoulder of the road.

This stretch of SR 18 was closed for almost four hours.

According to a report from the Washington State Patrol, the incident is still under investigation.
