The 2011 Burn Awareness Week is Feb. 7-13 and helps teach children and the community how to be more aware of potential accidents for their own safety. Help play a role in promoting burn prevention education and e-mail or give us a call for a free scald prevention kit order form or request burn educational coloring activities for children 4 and older.

Although Burn Awareness Week only comes once a year, the Northwest Burn Foundation works year round to promote prevention education. As severe burns become more common and scalds remain the second leading cause of death to children one to four years of age, burn and scald education is needed more than ever. Kicking off the 2011 year, the Northwest Burn Foundation staff and board are ready to spread the message and take one step closer to giving burns the boot.

• The foundation’s goal is to reach the five states, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska. To get this vital information into the hands of those who need it, the foundation is sending out scald prevention kit order forms to all fire departments and health organizations. What better way to spread this life saving information than by giving it to those who face these challenges daily. It is with the help of our distributors, fire service and volunteers that allow us to directly touch the lives that are affected by burns and scalds the most.

• This is the year to make safety first and send out the message loud and clear. Let us work together to save our community and give everyone the chance at life they deserve. Nearly all burns and scalds are preventable, lets take the first step together in 2011 and work towards a safer community.

You can also join the team year round and become a distributor for our burn prevention material. Place an order with us for scald kits and order forms and distribute them throughout your health care organization or school. We also provide burn prevention presentations and educational coloring activities for children that would be great in classrooms and waiting rooms.
