Car prowls and theft in Black Diamond Morgan Creek Development under investigation

A series of car prowls and thefts in the Black Diamond Morgan Creek Development have caught the attention of police and residents. The car prowls occurred in late November and December.

A series of car prowls and thefts in the Black Diamond Morgan Creek Development have caught the attention of police and residents.

The car prowls occurred in late November and December. A police report cited at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 30 and about 5:30 a.m. Dec. 1 five vehicles were entered in the 25000 block of the development.

A garage door opener was taken from one, and a garage door opener and welding hood from another. A GPS unit was stolen from a third vehicle

One vehicle was locked and the passenger side window was broken to allow entry. The other four vehicles were unlocked.

According to police department officials, the incidents are under investigation, but there are no suspects.

The police department has increased patrols in the area and around the city and are asking residents to call 911 if any suspicious behavior is observed.

The police department offered the following tips to help prevent similar crimes.

  • If possible park your vehicle in a garage.
  • If you cannot park in a garage, park your vehicle close to your home preferably in a lighted area and lock it.
  • Remove valuables from your vehicle.
  • Place remote or windshield mounted electronics out of sight such as GPS units.
  • Remove your garage door opener from your vehicle. If taken the suspect will have access to your home.
