Seattle-area man charged in death of Black Diamond sound engineer Thomas Pfaeffle

Kino Gomez was charged with the shooting death of Thomas Pfaeffle, a Black Diamond resident, in Okanogon County Superior Court. The 57-year-old Gomez from the Seattle area, was charged with second-degree murder and reckless endangerment. His bail has been set at $100,000.

The shooting took place at 10:41 p.m. Friday at the Blue Spruce Motel in Twisp, Wash.

According to the Twisp Police Department investigation, the 49-year-old Pfaeffle may have been trying to unlock the wrong door in the motel, believing it was his room.

Gomez is accused of shooting Pfaeffle though the closed door. Pfaeffle collapsed behind the cars parked in front motel. His wife was with him at the time of the shooting.

He was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak, Wash. where he died.

Pfaeffle worked as a sound engineer for bands including Nirvana, Queensryche, Aerosmith and the Black Crowes.

He owned and operated a Black Diamond area recording studio, The Tank.
