The Covington City Council recognized seven Public Works employees for their service during the winter storms.
Mayor Margaret Harto and the council members handed out the awards at the beginning of the Tuesday City Council meeting.
Harto pointed out the employees “outdid themselves during the winter storms. Emergency personnel knew when they came to Covington the roads had been plowed and sanded.”
Harto said people from other cities came to Covington during the snow over Christmas and shopped because the roads had been cleared.
The mayor said the crew worked for “21 straight days during the holiday season.”
According to Harto, the seven were responsible for plowing more than 2,000 miles of road and sanding 1,350 miles in Covington.
The seven who were given awards were: Dan Wesley, maintenance supervisor, and maintenance workers Don Trapp, Joe Marchefka, Robin Irvine, John Gaudette, Tyler Clark, Stuart Garnett.
Wesley said at the meeting, “support of our families is the key to our success.”
