Rehearsals begin for Maple Valley community choir

Do you love to sing? Are you inspired by American Idol? Then you are invited to share you talents in a community choir, which will perform this spring with the Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Community choir rehearsals will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Mondays through April 20 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 23855 S.E. 216th St.

Anyone from late elementary age to adult are welcome to join the choir. The ability to read music is helpful, but not required. No audition is necessary; simply show up at rehearsal if you are interested in participating.

The choir and orchestra will perform on Friday, April 24 at Trinity Baptist Church in Renton, and Saturday, April 25 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Both performances will begin at 7 p.m.

This year’s major work will be the “Five Mystical Songs” of English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, and a number of shorter pieces will be performed as well. Kenneth Riggs, choir director at Tahoma High School, will be guest soloist.
