Then Kentwood High star Joshua Smith backed up his words Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome.

Smith, Kentwood’s 6-foot-9 UCLA-bound star, scored a game-high 22 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out five assists, leading the Conquerors past Jackson 67-58 for the Class 4A state boys basketball title.

The King County Road Services Division is scheduled to begin its roadside weed control program in unincorporated areas of the county and in the cities of Maple Valley and Burien beginning March 29. As part of the program, certified technicians will perform controlled herbicide spraying along some road shoulders through the summer to reduce safety hazards for pedestrians, motorists and bicyclists.

In early 2000, two women who were members of a local church went to their pastor, explained VMP Executive Director Colleen Starr.
“They went to their pastor and they said they really felt like something should be done to help homeless families with kids, specifically moms,” Starr said. “The pastor quickly said, ‘That’s too big for us.'”
