A 19-year-old man brandishing a machete was shot and killed by King County Sheriff’s deputies just before midnight Saturday, March 19, near Cumberland in Southeast King County.
According to Sgt. John Urquhart, spokesman for the King County Sheriff’s Office, the man died at the scene. He had been living in the Ravensdale area.
A bar fight at the Red Dog Saloon in the early morning hours left a 27-year-old Maple Valley man dead and his 49-year-old father injured from stab wounds.
The fight occured at 12:45 a.m. Sunday, March 20, at the Red Dog Saloon located at 18605 S.E. Renton-Maple Valley Road in unincorporated King County.

A series of town hall meetings were the top entertainment Saturday in both Covington and Maple Valley with the legislators from Olympia presenting some good news and some troubling predictions.
Syphilis cases in King County reached a 30-year high in 2010, prompting public health officials to call for increased testing and education for high-risk populations, especially men who have sex with men. In 2010, 283 cases of syphilis were reported, an 82 percent increase from 2009. Syphilis had been virtually eliminated in King County in the early-1990s.
A vehicle was observed by an officer traveling at a speed higher then the posted speed limit in the 31100 block of 3rd Avenue. The officer turned on his emergency lights and the driver failed to stop for another mile. The vehicle then stopped in the middle of the roadway and the female driver jumped out and started to approach the officer yelling obscenities and threats. The officer eventually detained the woman and upon observing signs of intoxication a DUI investigation was initiated. The female driver agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which she failed. This case was forwarded to the King County Prosecutor’s Office for review of charges on felony harassment and numerous other misdemeanor charges.

Robert Hughes was driving on the Auburn-Black Diamond Road today at the precise moment when a blue pickup drove off the road into Covington Creek. Because Hughes and four other men were there, a man’s life was saved.
The pickup hit a guardrail and rolled into the creek at about 4 p.m. today, March 15, on the Auburn-Black Diamond Road near Camp Berachah in the 19800 block of Southeast 328th Place.
Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety firefighters were dispatched to a cooking fire at a single family residence at about 8 p.m.
The Maple Valley Food Bank and Emergency Services honored its community of support at the annual volunteer awards ceremony and banquet March 6 at the Lake Wilderness Lodge. The theme was “Hats off to our volunteers.”
The event was attended by 134 volunteers and guests and was planned by the food bank Board of Directors and staff.

The Kent Regional Fire Authority emergency units and King County Medic 1 units were dispatched to multiple reports of respiratory difficulty by residents of an apartment building in the downtown area of Kent at 11 p.m. Sunday. March 14.
Residents of the apartment building located on the 1400 block of West Smith Street, reported an odor that seemed to be the cause of the breathing difficulty.
