Forget-Me-Not flower fundraiser

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 28 at the Covington Fred Meyer, members of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter A-One No. 33 organization will hold their annual fundraiser.

All charitable donations will go toward disabled veterans, their widows and children.

Library Guild book sale runs through Saturday

The book and media sale at the Maple Valley Library began Thursday and runs through Saturday.

The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Friday, May 20 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in the library meeting room.

Most items are priced at $1 or less.

Green Team update

In the April 8 edition of The Reporter, Ana Karen Perez Guzman wrote about Tahoma’s Green Team and the work party it was holding at the Shadow Lake bog for Earth Day.

Grace Lundt, the student leader in charge of the garden project, said more people showed up than expected.

She added, the biggest goal was to get plants in the ground and that was done within the first half hour.

“Putting gravel and mulch really pulled everything together so it looks like a legitimate learning garden now,” she said.

Rock ‘n’ More Academy summer camps

Dace’s Rock ‘n’ More Music Academy is hosting three day summer camps.

For those ages 9 to 12, the Intro to Music camp will teach basic fundamentals.

More experienced guitarists can participate in the Guitar Boot Camp which will teach new exercises.

And the third camp, Home Recording, will teach students how to mic their instruments and use recording gear.

Farmers Market in a new location

This year the Black Diamond Farmers Market will have a new home at the Black Diamond City Gym, 25511 Lawson.

This is the fourth year the farmers market has been operating and it is set to open on Friday, June 3.

The market is open every Friday through Sept. 9 from 3 to 7 p.m.

“Black Diamond is without a full-service grocery store,” said Mira Hoke, market manager. “So, people really love picking up these fresh items on Friday afternoons and evenings as they head into the weekend. It’s a great gathering place for the community.”

The market also includes weekly folk musicians as well as plants, crafts and flowers.

Memorial Day ceremony at cemetery

The Tahoma National Cemetery will be hosting a Memorial Day ceremony starting at 1 p.m. Monday, May 30.

The ceremony will be held at the main flag pole assembly area and will include keynote speaker Lourdes E. Alvarado-Ramos along with guest speaker Nataly Morales, representing Senator Patti Murray.

The ceremony will remember and honor those who served or are currently serving our nation.

There will be a special segment this year where a Commemorative Lapel Pinning will be held for Vietnam War Era veterans who served from Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975.

Reception May 24 for Councilman Jim Scott

During the May 24 Covington City Council meeting there will be a reception honoring retiring Councilman Jim Scott.

At the April 26 meeting, Scott announced his retirement.

The reception will be held following the public communication portion of the agenda.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
