Three blood drives scheduled for August

Cascade Regional Blood Services has announced its three dates for blood drives next month.

The first is scheduled for 7 a.m. to noon Aug. 12 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Covington.

The next is 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Covington Safeway. The third scheduled blood drive is from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Maple Valley Farmers Market.

National Night Out coming soon

National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 1, nationwide. The Maple Valley Police Department is encouraging residents to plan a get together with their neighbors.

The department has a few spots open if residents would like officers to stop by their event.

The King County Sheriff’s Office along with city officials and other guests will be holding a large National Night Out gathering beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Glacier Community Park, Southeast 280th Street and 238th Avenue Southeast.

Summer throwdown fundraiser set for Aug. 12

Dace’s Rock ‘n’ More Music Academy will be hosting its annual fundraiser at a private residence in Maple Valley from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12.

All proceeds from the event go toward their tuition assistance program.

The event will feature two stages with live music along food and beverages for everyone. This year’s events theme is Southern/Texas/Cowboy and guests are welcome to dress the part.

A silent auction will also be taking place for attendees to bid on donated items.

Advanced tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for kids 13 years old and younger. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $30.

Rainier Youth Choir day camp begins Aug. 14

The sixth annual day camp for the Rainier Youth Choir will be held Aug. 14 through 17 at the New Hope Presbyterian Church, 19800 108th Ave. SE in Kent.

This year’s Amazing Race 2 theme is inspired by the CBS show, a media release stated. The release added participants will travel from adventure to adventure singing songs from each country they visit along with other activities specific to that country.

Those in grades three through nine are welcome to attend. An audition is not required. The camp will run daily from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

School supply lists now available

A number of local schools now have their school supply lists posted on TeacherLists.com.

Parents will be able to view their kids supply list and with one click they will be able to fill shopping carts on either Target, Walmart, Jet.com or Amazon’s website to purchase the items.
