A half dozen youths between the ages of 10 and 18 took gum from a stranger at the Maple Valley Skate Park Wednesday night, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart, with all of them reporting unpleasant results.

Around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, five children and one 18 year old, “took some free gum from a stranger.” All were male except for a 13 year old girl.

“A little while later they all said they felt ‘nauseous and dizzy,'” Urquhart said in an e-mail. “So, 9-1-1 was called. The fire department checked them out at the scene and all were released to their parents.”

There was some concern by one of the youngsters that the gum was more sinister than just the nausea and dizziness.

“One of the kids (a 13 year old boy) was chewing six pieces at the same time when he thinks some foreign object cut his mouth,” Urquhart said. “He spit the gum out but we didn’t find anything in the gum.”

Urquhart said the suspect is a white man in his 30s with short brown hair who was wearing a black shirt.
